We need help!

Join us as a volunteer to help in our petition to ask Tan Kin Lian to stand for election.

Some people said, “S’poreans are generally not well motivated in terms of politics. That’s why a good stump speech, better organisation, and also good persuasion on the petition works.”

We agree. Some of us are already contributing. We need all the help we can get.

Please contact us if you could volunteer to help us in anyway for this petition. This is a long term project. This website is part of our effort to talk to people to generate ideas.

We need

1. people to give ideas on how to build up the petition effort
2. volunteers to spread the word around to collect signature
3. friends who can publicise this petition through the internet, eg, Facebook, Digg, etc.
4. writers to contribute opinion, highlight important issues
5. graphic designers to improve this website
6. video specialists
7. legal advisors
8. recruiters for more volunteers

As volunteers, we work out of our free will. We also believe that it is very important to get the support of our family on what we are doing.

A good start! I had initially wanted to ask Mr Tan on ToC what his plans were to attract a group of volunteers to help him, not just with the legwork, but with different perspectives on ideas and issues.

I remember when I first took part in the forum of Obama supporters in the early days of the presidential (nomination) campaign. People were highly enthusiastic and generally civilized, even when we did not agree with one another. Of course, the huge difference was that Obama had a dedicated campaign team and a campaign theme.

If we want to make this a serious cause, we have to look beyond getting 100,000 signatures. Mr Tan will need a dedicated team (including possible other MP-candidates), a proper platform (the days of a true solo independent candidate are over) and what he should try to achieve if he were to win (one of the things I am very annoyed with current opposition politics is that they are simply not prepared to win. The old SDP blew a big chance and a sizable chunk of goodwill by running Nee Soon Central and Bukit Gombak badly).

Finally, it’d be nice to see people identify themselves as volunteers for Mr Tan. It creates a sense of community rather than a sense that outsiders are just dealing with a bunch of invisible folk working behind the scenes on Mr Tan’s behalf.
